Audio powerhouse Sonos launched the long-awaited Sub Mini on Tuesday. The small, cylindrical wireless subwoofer is designed to add low end to home theaters in smaller rooms.
Compatible with the company’s range of products, including its AirPlay-enabled sound bars and speakers, the affordable subwoofer goes up for sale on October 6 for $429.
Sonos Sub Mini delivers bass for smaller-sized rooms
Sonos expanded its home theater portfolio with the new Sub Mini subwoofer, made to deliver bass for smaller-sized rooms, the company said. The product was subject to leaks before finally becoming official.
“We’ve entered a more thoughtful era of streaming that prioritizes quality over quantity, with creators and platforms investing in immersive entertainment experiences that put premium sound at the forefront,” said Maxime Bouvat-Merlin, Sonos senior VP for Hardware and Operations.
“Sub Mini is a welcome addition to the Sonos family, rounding out our home theater product line-up so listeners can experience cinema quality sound that makes them feel like the main character — or player — in their favorite content,” she added.
Subwoofer for music, movies, gaming and more
The Sub Mini’s release follows recent launches of two Sonos soundbars, Beam and Ray. The Sub Mini expands the company’s home theater lineup with a new option “to supercharge your streaming experiences,” Sonos said.
The device’s dual custom woofers and advanced processing generate dynamic low end with no buzz or rattle, the company said. Within the acoustically sealed cabinet, both woofers face inward to create a force-canceling effect that neutralizes distortion.
Advanced digital signal processing reproduces the full-toned low frequencies you’d expect from a much larger subwoofer, the company promised. That allows paired Sonos speakers like Beam, Ray, One, or One SL to focus on more mid-range and high frequencies for a richer, more powerful sound experience.
Compact, cylindrical design blends in
Unlike many subwoofers, Sub Mini features a round design that allows it to blend naturally into your home aesthetic without taking too much space or calling attention to itself, Sonos said.
You can add Sub Mini to your Sonos system in just a few taps on the Sonos app. Then it’s easy to mix and match with different Sonos speakers to create an ideal sound system for your needs.
To fine tune the Sub Mini’s sound, you can use Trueplay, which detects and adapts the speaker’s sound for reflections off of walls and furniture. That gives you the best listening experience for your room and setup.
Available in matte black and white, Sub Mini will be available starting October 6 at $429.
